Golf Development Academy launched by Burton College and Branston Golf & Country Club - 25/03/2008

New initiative first in region tailored specifically for promising golfers

National qualification combined with professional golf coaching

Burton College and Branston Golf & Country Club have today announced the launch of the Golf Development Academy, which will provide further education students with the National Diploma in Sports qualification.

The partnership will operate in a similar way to the highly successful Football Development Academy currently run by the College in conjunction with Burton Albion.

This latest initiative has been launched to support promising golfers who are keen to explore a career in golf as well as develop their own playing ability. Branston Golf & Country Club was a natural partner for the College because of its excellent facilities which compliment all aspects of the golf game, including health, fitness and diet.

Commenting on the Golf Development Academy, Keith Norris, Principal and CEO of Burton College said: “The College has a reputation for developing flagship courses with leading businesses across the region. Branston approached us to discuss establishing a golf academy and we were excited by the concept. Golfers are increasingly reliant upon a strong understanding and knowledge of a range of academic components such as psychology, fitness and diet. Our National Diploma in Sport will address all of these, as well as allowing golfers to develop their own game alongside Branston’s excellent facilities and professional coaches.”

Speaking on behalf of Branston Golf & Country Club, Iain Ross, head Golf Professional said: “Branston currently has an excellent school outreach program for young and aspiring golfers of all ages and abilities. This latest initiative goes one step further to support student golfers who are keen to explore various opportunities to work within the golf industry. We know this will be a huge success and attract a large number of applicants from across the region.”
